“When Cristo’s Gates was unveiled in Central Park in 2005 there was a lot of interest. Photographs were taken, and articles were written. I didn’t feel there was anything more I could add, so I wrote it off.
Then, one day, it snowed. Feeling energized, I decided to make the trip to NYC. I dropped everything, grabbed my camera, and headed out the door.
When I arrived, the many people walking on the pathways made it seem ordinary. I was discouraged. How could I show this work of art in a fresh way?
I came across a knoll that obscured the people, and all I could see were the snow, the saffron-colored gates, and the trees. Suddenly, the scene became more abstract and timeless.”
